A look back at the testimony of the 2023 winner of the “industrial” prize, Maximilian WEBERS , the Co-founder and CEO of the start-up COLIPI (Germany).

“We were showcasing our carbon recovery technology that produces carbon-light alternatives to palm oil, chemically triacylglycerols. We knew that the interest in this technology for the cosmetics industry was high, as our trademark Climate Oil helps increase product sustainability in two ways: by reducing the carbon footprint (scope 3 emissions) of products and by avoiding the use of palm oil in formulations.

This presentation allowed us to win the Industrial Prize in 2023.

The existing links with the French and European cosmetics industry have been strengthened. Today, we are part of the L'Oréal and Cosmetic Valley Green Science incubator, and THE COSMETIC VICTORIES competition has contributed to this collaboration.

After the event, we raised our Seed funding round in January 2024 and grew our team from 6 to 13 people. We are now regularly selling product samples to innovative partners in the cosmetics industry. We are targeting a production of a few thousand tons in 2026 and are actively pre-selling batches of Climate Oil through advance purchase agreements. There is not much stock left, but for fast partners we could still supply a few metric tons.

A look back at the testimony of the 2021 winner of the “academic research” prize from IPREM EPCP UMR 5254 of the University of Pau (France): Pr Laurent BILLON

"At the Cosmetic Victories 2021, I presented an academic innovation inspired by sea sponges: biocompatible and biodegradable microgels, made up of 95% water and capable of releasing active ingredients in response to stimuli such as pH or temperature. These microgels, after application to the skin, form a film with mechanical and adhesive properties and can stabilize Pickering emulsions resistant to pressure and deformation.

The Academic Prize gave me international recognition and allowed me to highlight more than ten years of research on microgels. This prize was a trigger for the creation of Biomim'Gel, a start-up intended to transfer this technology to industry.

It was a trigger for me to take the step of entrepreneurship and start looking for a collaborator to create Biomim'Gel.

Today, I joined the scientific expertise committee of the competition in order to encourage public research applicable to cosmetics and its valorization via the transfer of innovation. Because, even if the path is long and strewn with pitfalls, this participation is also a way of showing that we must give ourselves the means to achieve our goals, persevere and above all believe in our ideas.
