November 22, 23, 24: 1st International Pacific Cosmetopeic Meetings

5th edition of the International Congress of Cosmetopoeia and 1st edition of the International Meetings of Cosmetopoeia of the Pacific: November 22, 23 and 24, 2016 in Tahiti

An event organized by the Tahiti Fa'ahotu cluster, the Cosmetic Valley and the University of French Polynesia

Why organize this congress?

The study, protection or enhancement of biodiversity in general, and heritage plants in particular, are currently the subject of institutional progress likely to lead to major developments inspired by the Nagoya protocol (Nagoya conference in 2010).

The regions of the South Pacific such as the French overseas regions (New Caledonia, French Polynesia, Wallis and Futuna) and others such as the archipelago of the Fiji Islands, constitute privileged areas of biodiversity, not only by the diversity of the flora and fauna (terrestrial and marine) found there but also by the services rendered by this biological diversity including the uses of the pharmacopoeia and the cosmetopoeia which are an integral part of their cultural heritage.

If there has been a pharmacopoeia for a very long time which lists plants for therapeutic use, work in the field of traditional cosmetics is still little listed in writings. The concept of the cosmetopée calls on international partnerships to identify the plants used for cosmetic purposes and traditional know-how. Its objective is to promote cosmetic innovation by developing exchanges between academic research and the industrial world, promoting public/private partnerships to supply companies, and especially SMEs, with new ingredients and active ingredients of natural origin with respect for people and nature.

The establishment of the "5th International Congress of Cosmetics and 1st International Meetings of Cosmetics in the Pacific", proposes to bring together in Polynesia academic researchers, industrialists from the perfumery-cosmetics sector to take stock of the advances in cosmetics at the international level and in the Pacific. These days of meetings will be held in the form of a symposium with presentations of scientific work, round tables and then workshops focusing on the cosmetopeia of the Pacific.

This event aims to promote the different aspects of cosmetics at the Pacific and International level on themes relating to three axes:

Axis 1: Traditional cosmetics and dermocosmetics : Biodiversity, cosmetics - Ethnobotany (traditional) Phytochemistry - Ethnoscience - natural substances - traditional uses - Biological activities)

Axis 2: Protection of knowledge and exchanges : Biosourcing, Nagoya (APA - ABS), culture, security, local, regional and international legislation, local development, collaborative agreements, transfer of skills

Axis 3: Valorization of products, consumer protection : customer, market, safety, harmlessness, finished products, consumers, economic valorization, processes, transformations, formulations
