At the heart of the excavation, a veritable layering of historical periods has been unearthed. On a 500-square-meter site, archaeologists have made numerous discoveries:
📍First physical traces of the ancient fortifications of Autricum, a Gallo-Roman town in the 4th and 5th centuries
📍 Foundations of an ancient house abandoned following a fire
📍 Cavities deep in the ground
📍 And even a cake mold depicting Ulysses and the sirens on a boat
The time has now come to analyze these finds, within the Archaeology services of Chartres Métropole.
From now on, these geological strata bear witness to the site's many uses, from Gallo-Roman times to the present day, including the Middle Ages. This strongly echoes the very essence of cosmetics: a universal, timeless expertise that draws on ancient heritage to innovate and look towards the future.
Thus, the House of Cosmetics rises on this land steeped in history. The future Cosmétopée garden will take root in this courtyard where each stone tells a chapter of the past, nourishing the future. A perfect alchemy of memory, innovation, and transmission.

A building that is entering construction
2026 marks a turning point. The House of Cosmetics becomes a reality. Step by step, but with real acceleration: the House of Cosmetics is built thanks to you.
Located in the heart of Chartres, the House is being built with the decisive support of Chartres Métropole , a partner from the very beginning, through the rehabilitation of the former Jean Moulin college.
The building permit has now been approved , paving the way for the operational phase of the project. Archaeological excavations will be carried out in the spring, before work begins in early summer.

A showcase serving the economy, culture and territories
Paris, October 7, 2025 – Last night, in the heart of the prestigious Petit Palais, the French cosmetics industry gathered to celebrate a historic moment: the official launch of the sponsorship campaign dedicated to the Maison de la Cosmétique , an emblematic project led by COSMETIC VALLEY and supported by Chartres Métropole.
Conceived as a place of transmission , innovation and influence , the Maison de la Cosmétique will open its doors in Chartres in 2028, at the foot of the UNESCO-listed cathedral. It will embody the founding values of the sector: scientific progress, freedom of creation, human well-being, universal utility and responsibility towards living things.
More than a hundred companies were present to discover this unifying project. Highlights included:
The sponsorship campaign aims to raise between 7.5 and 10 million euros by 2028. Several levels of commitment are proposed, allowing each patron – founder, ambassador, builder, benefactor or pioneer – to join this collective adventure and benefit from strategic rewards (visibility, governance, access to events, etc.).
