Argument of the congress

Cosmetics lives with its times and constantly seeks to reinvent itself as consumer needs and expectations evolve. To the notions of pleasure, well-being and performance must now be systematically added to those of the origin of the raw materials used and of naturalness. Moreover, the geopolitical and environmental changes complicate reliable sources of supply. Challenges faced by cosmetics are therefore numerous, mixing sciences, processes, sourcing, regulations, etc.

Since Antiquity, lipids have been the main ingredients used in the formulation of beauty products whether in their natural form of oils, fats or waxes or their derivatives, which benefit from numerous scientific and industrial advances. Their complex, varied and variable composition requires a perfect characterization in order to better understand their impact in formulation and their performance in application, but also allows to maintain a strong innovation process.

To propose to the consumer an high quality, the lipid materials used in cosmetic formulations must present a perfect stability in their composition, their smell and their color and come from cultures and processes of extraction and purification eco-responsible.

Topic 1: Innovations in the formulation of lipids

  • Control of the variability of batches of natural lipids
  • Impact of lipids on the stability of formulations
  • Specificity of lipids for innovative formulations
  • Interaction of lipid materials with packaging biomaterial

Topic 2: Physiological and cosmetic performance of lipids

  • Skin and hair protection
  • Improvement in the sensory qualities of formulations by lipids
  • Impact of foods containing lipids on skin and hair

The Tech Corner is back on COSMETIC 360

#Cosmetic360

The Tech Corner of COSMETIC 360 is a flagship entertainment area of the show supported by a partnership between COSMETIC VALLEY and the CNRS. This area highlights a technology developed by a research laboratory, which can find an application in the perfumery-cosmetics sector.

For the 2023 edition, a continuous flow extraction and potentiation technology will be presented to you. It is the result of the collaboration between two laboratories of the Cosmetosciences program which are the Institute of Organic and Analytical Chemistry (ICOA), and the Institute of Combustion, Aerothermics, Reactivity and Environment (ICARE) . This technology combines both an extraction process using green solvents and online functionalization to exacerbate the biological activity of target molecules in order to potentiate their activities for cosmetic uses.

Regulatory Issues Congress - Perfumes & Cosmetics (21st edition)

A look back at the conference "the future of the European cosmetics industry" in Brussels

As part of the European interregional partnership Go4Cosmetics, the Centre-Val de Loire and Lombardy regions organized a conference to discuss the future of the European cosmetics industry, with the support of COSMETIC VALLEY, and REI - Reindustria Innovazione, development and coordinator of the Lombardy Cosmetics System.

The event was hosted by the European Committee of the Regions in Brussels on Monday July 3, in the presence of European institutions and players in the cosmetics industry.

Today, the industry wishes to draw the attention of the European institutions to its challenges and to the need to be considered as a priority industry. Indeed, while some sectors of the cosmetics industry value chain are recognized as key industries by the EU, the cosmetics industry as a whole is not yet part of the 14 European priority industrial ecosystems. European programs do not target the cosmetics industry as an application sector, which considerably limits access to funding. This lack of recognition therefore has direct impacts on academic and industrial players.

On July 3, the cosmetic ecosystems of European regions came together to present their joint research and innovation strategy to accelerate transitions and remain competitive in the face of increased international competition.

Panel 1: Strategies for Success: Navigating the Green and Digital Transitions in the Cosmetics Industry
